Bottle from Oddbins Beer Shop, Blackheath. Black pour with a beige head. Dark chocolate, blackberries, red fruits, licorice, toffee and caramel in the aroma. Flavours of black cherries, licorice, black treacle, sweet spice. Long, warm and perhaps I might venture- soothing alcohol action down the gullet. Tasty.

Keg @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Black with next to no head. Strong tasting, although palatably smooth in its texture. Has a sweetness rather than any notable roasted malts in its taste, although there’s some in its nose.

Bottle shared in ABZ. It pours jet black with a s tan head. The aroma is rich, big roasted malt, dark chocolate, dark fruits, jam, black forest gateaux, red wine, oak, liquorice, light spice and expresso coffee. The taste is rich, bitter - sweet, rich roasted maltage, treacle, very fruity, jammy berry, blackcurrant, victoria sponge, vinous, warming alcohol, chocolate and a bit of spice with a smooth finish. Full body, fine carbonation and slick mouth - feel. Fruity and quaffable. Nice one.
