Bottle at the London tasting, October 2016. Thanks to someone for bringing this, I thought it was excellent. Dark brown color. big malt aroma, sweet, rich palate, some red wine, and yeast is noticeable as well. Rich and heavy.

Bottle. Nose is molassus, dates, figs, treacle, hint of smoke. Taste is brown sugar, treacle, licorice,dates, hint of prune, walnut, roast. Blueberry, cola, fruit cake, chocolate, with soy and sherry notes in the finish. Mouthfeel is very full. I am confused by this, there is a lot going on, but it never takes off for me and goes beyond ’solid’

Sampled from bottle at THT October. Black with thin light tan head. Sweet roasted malts, barley light sweet, light bitter. Medium body, slick soft feel. --- Beer merged from original tick of King Alfred's Cake on 08 Jan 2018 at 15:43 - Score: 7

Bottle shared thanks to Scott. Very dark brown with beige bubbly head. Quite earthy, light meaty, roasted malts, toffee, raisins, walnuts, blackberries. Medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with a light dry feel. Quite unusual, not bad!

Craft Islington Gathering. Thanks to Daniel and Paul. Clear deep amber - brown beer, tidy tan head. Smooth palate, modest fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, some dark chocolate. Trace of malt cream. Modest dark fruits. LIght dry finish. Decent.
4th November 2017
This bottle smelled like cola cubes and cherry pips with carried over in to the taste. Mild dark chocolate alongside. Unusual!

Bottle picked up at the brewery, shared at the JK Ldn tasting. It pours darkest brown with a thick, light tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malts, earthy, cocoa, fruit cake, hint of solvent?, blueberry jam and chocolate. The taste is dry, quite mellow, bitter - sweetish roast, chocolate, blueberry, cherry cola, toasty, coffee grounds and tobacco. Medium -full body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Rather fruity. A nice example of the style.

Bottle at the JKJKJK tasting, thanks to Dopey and Scanny, 06/10/16. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a well appointed light beige cap. Nose is tangy dark fruits, spice, earthy cocoa, soy sauce. Taste comprises toasted brown sugars, toffee, fruit cake, chocolate, dark malts. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent well rounded porter but perhaps a little simplistic.
