Pours black with tan head. Nose is chocolate light peat and hint of whiskey. Taste is equally balanced roasted malts, whiskey (no burn) and chocolate.

Bottle. Pours dark brown, almost clear but with some sediment, and sturdy, beige head. Plenty of lacing. Light scotch is detectable in the aroma, along with some chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor begins sweet with some dark fruits - raisin and plum - then some coffee and cocoa, then scotch, finishing with a strong burnt malt character, peat, char, and some tobacco. Medium body, lively carbonated. Some lingering tobacco and sweet stickiness. Really good overall.

11th October 2008. GABF. Clear brown beer. Smooth palate. Quite a chocolately porter and didn’t pick any smoke up. Dry finish.

Aroma: The nose is mostly roasted malts with some sweet notes of chocolate, caramel, and vanilla as well
Appearance: Pours a dark brown color with a fizzy tan colored head, and it leaves some lace
Flavor: A nice roasted, malty flavor, light-medium sweet, light bitterness
Palate: Mouthfeel is pretty dry, somewhat oily texture, and medium body
Overall Impression: I couldn't really figure out why they would call this a scotch porter, but it is a pretty decent porter. Beyond that, it is a nice beer, though not overly exciting, it does a good job of being simple and just plain working well, a nice beer for sure.

12 ounce bottle from somewhere in Richmond, VA. Pours a hazy very dark bronzeish brown color with a tiny floating particles. Thin head with average head retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, light roast, coffee and chocolate. Taste is light roast, caramel, faint chocolate and a nutty smokiness. Medium bodied. Good beer.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is dark and roasted malt. Smooth mouthfeel. Light chalky flavoured, smooth roasted malt and with light liqourice and chocolate accents. Ends dry, vague acidic and mild bitter, medium dry.

Pours deep mahogany into an English pint. Tan micro head with excellent retention leaves sheets as it recedes to coat surface. Dusty cocoa and peat aromas. Thin with upfront sweet caramel turning smoky and peaty in the lasting finish.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a medium cream light tan head. Good sticky lacing along the glas. The aroma is a roasted malt with toffee and caramel. The taste is roasted malt with chocolate and sweet finish. Easy to drink, a very good porter from Mad River.

Draft @ the brewery Taproom. Pours a hazy brown almost black color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty slightly spicy coffee aroma with some hints of chocolate. Roasted malty coffee and chocolate flavor with some hints of smoke. Has a roasted malty slighlty smokey finish.

Bottle. Pour is a dark brown with a smallish head. Aromas seem weak... burnt malt on a deep inhale is about it. Flavor is strange... there’s kind of an artificial sweetness to it that gets in the way of any enjoyment and has most of this one bound for the county’s sewer system. I guess you could say that it is like coffee that someone has dumped half a cup of sugar into and then stirred in some dirt or peat. Ech!
