Now the only original Brown Ale still brewed in the North East of England
It delivers a mouth of full and rounded flavour that is well balanced and smooth and leaves a pleasant and lingering slightly sweet aftertaste

Bottle: Amber coloured, huge off-white foam; malty-fruity nose, a bit caramelly, too; sweetish (malty) flavour, light to medium bodied, velvet MF; light bitter-malty finish with a distinctive fruitiness. Pleasant brown ale...............

One of the best brown ales I have tasted. Nice and well rounded. Definately not the last one to be drunk me.

(Bottle 50 cl) Never even heard of neithe beer nor brewery - probably my mistake. Very brown indeed, or rather deep, deep amber, filtered with a brownish, creamy head. Dark, almost roasted malt-character with a pronounced bitterness. Ok, but probably never becomes a favourite of mine. 130804

Ex Vaux beer, now brewed for "The Double Maxim Beer Company Sunderland", website www.dmbc.co.uk . 550 ml bottle, straight from the fridge (= served too cold) at The Shipwrights, North Hylton, Sunderland. Deep brown colour, darker than Newcastle Brown. Decent head. Malty and nutty aroma and flavour, hints of toffee, low bitterness. Fuller flavour than NBA, but not remarkable.

A red brown beer with a beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with burnt notes. The flavor is definatly that of a brown ale - but this one a little thin. Though it is still an OK beer - and I'd rather have this one, than Newcastle Brown Ale.

Bottled. Nut brown, little head. Sweet and richly malty. Medium bodied and only lightly bitter. Similar to Newcastle, but more subtle and fresh.
