Bottle at home picked up from Mitchells Wines. A dark nutty brown coloured pour with a lasting loose greyish khaki head. Aroma is dark roasted barley, light ash, some dark chocolate, hint of vanilla. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, dark roast, ashy, dry roast, earthy roasted barley, Palate is dry, highish carbonation, light tangy finish. Really solid earthy no-frills stout.

Cask at Calverts Court, Stockport. Pours almost black with a medium sized foamy beige head and good lacing. Vanilla comes through strongly in the aroma alongside some oats and roasted malts. In the mouth it is sweet and smooth (but not excessively so) with a creamy texture. Flavour has vanilla, malts and oats with traces of lactose, cola and liquorice. Some bitterness too which lasts into the slightly dry finish. This is a very enjoyable vanilla stout.

Handpull cask at the Thorn Tree, Ripley. Very dark brown with a touch of mahogany, almost opaque with a large beige head. Light chocolate notes on the nose with a little bit of liquorice. The taste is sweet with the liquorice much more prominent, and notes of black grape near the finish. Some balancing hop notes in the finish. Light carbonation. It's a lively stout, would have expected it to rate higher.
