With these Belgian cherries we made this (very!) Limited edition. With 250g of fresh Schaerbeek cherries per liter, re-fermented in the bottle, this Oude Kriek has a very characteristic cherry flavor with a very soft aftertaste.

In collaboration with HORAL (the High Council for Artisanal Lambic Beers) and the Province of Flemish Brabant, we are currently testing various subspecies of the kriek to make an automated harvest in Belgium possible for the first time. The total available quantity of this cherry today is only about 6% of the amount of cherries that our brewery now needs annually. (For all our fruit beers we work with fresh fruit that fermentes naturally with the beer. No juices or concentrates are added.) An automated harvest can ensure that the harvest can be continued in Belgium, the quality monitoring can be good. happen and, above all, that more of this beautiful cherry is available again. It is a large and difficult project, but if you taste the fine result of these cherries in the beer, it is immediately clear that this is more than worth it. And we are just at the start ... Santé!

375ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Pours a generally clear reddish pink, frothy off-white head with specks of yeast gunk. Aroma brings a cherry sweetness, coarse hints. Not quite as sharp as expected to taste but still a decent thorny cherry character coming through. Just lacks the wow factor of others of its ilk.

Malm April tasting - sweet and lightly tart cherry fruity prominence, cherry stone, medium body, cherry tunes, light spiced and cherry infused finish.

Thnx to Wim ! Pours hazed, dark and deep red. Small pinkwhite head. Scent is relatively mild on cherry, Boon fruityness still recognizable. Taste is sherry, bit 'sweet', candy cherry (not overly so, just traces of it) . Medium high carbo. Lighter acidity. Decent, still not overly intense.
