Strong and warming, super-malty, oaky tannins, more than enough going on to pique interest and drinkability is through the fucking roof.

Can: Poured a clear dark brown color bokc with a medium size off-white foamy head with OK retention and light lacing. Aroma of dry caramelized malt notes with some limited amount of other flavors perceptible. Taste is also a mix of caramelized malt with light residual sugar and light cereal notes with limited ester that I was expecting to find in that beer. Body is about average with good carbonation. Lacking the flavors and complexity that are associated with the style.

A dark reddish brown ale with a very thin off white head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with dark fruits, bananas, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity caramel malt with dark fruits, licorice, alcohol warmth, OK.

Can (May 2022). This one pours bright. Still amber, but the bright is the important part. Lots of malt up front on the nose. The oak is gentle in this edition, too. Mostly they help round out the malty base. Alcohol is mellow for a beer this size. It's sticky, but nothing crazy. It lacks the richness that the best doppelbocks of southern Bavaria have, but I mean let's get real, I don't expect anybody to make doppelbock like Ayginer, Ettaler, Andechs, etc. Can (Dec 2020). Murky amber. Not the best-looking beer, especially for a style where technical precision is the norm (in Bavaria, anyway). Thin head. Malty aroma, toffeeish, with just a hint of the oak. On the palate the oak is again gentle. The base doppelbock is big, sticky toffee notes. I like the bigness and the richness, but it's not the most refined of doppelbocks. Still, great to see this type of beer being brewed. 7 3 7 3 14 = 3.4

Tasting at Phill's, can
Amber colour, clean. The esters are strong in the nose. Quite malty, it's sweet, there's fudge and caramel, strong alcohol, and strong esters, maybe some bubblegum; not easy to brew at this gravity, I guess they did a pretty good job.

473mL can, pours a clear amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted nuts, bready malt, some herbal notes, and a touch of caramel. Flavour is quite nutty, with toasted caramel, bready malt, toasted nuts. Somewhat herbal and nutty, with a bready caramel finish. Quite boozy, with a sweet caramel finish. Very good.
