Our champion Mild has a smooth character and taste notes of chocolate malt, which gives this beer plenty of flavour and belies its strength. A British classic crafted to our brewers special recipe makes this a nutty mild and despite being only 3.2% abv it's packed full of flavour.

Hobsons Mild is brewed in the style of a traditional dark coloured Mild ale, using Maris Otter malting barley, pale chocolate malt and crystal malt and British variety hops Fuggles and Goldings from Worcestershire.

In 2019 The Champion won GOLD at the regional CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain Awards!

Cask at The Post Office Vaults, Birmingham. Poured a reddish Chesnut brown with a broken tan head. The aroma is weak but with malty notes. The flavour brings back memories. This is like the mild my father used to drink! It’s nutty, malty, mildly bitter with a smooth palate. The perfect session ale and very satisfying too. I feel guilty about giving it a relatively low rating and I’m wondering why I have, because I really enjoyed it. However, it lacks the flavours of a good IPA or a big Imperial Stout.

This review is from a brewery trip in September 2006, although I have drank this brew at various locations within Shropshire for a few years. Always looks good, dark, sticky and wholesome, a true mild. This is not an old beer, but brought to life once the brewery became viable and could afford to experiment a bit. It has a proper mild feel about it, a bit sweet maybe, but still true to style. Based on Banks’s Mild (from a source within the brewery), it was brewed to local tastes, this has helped to ensure it was excepted. Well worth trying if you ever see it.

Cask at the White Horse, London. Pours a dark ruby-brown, clear, with a mild, white and foamy head. Malty aroma with light roast and mocha. Sweet flavor with roasted malts, bread, light candy and some very faint, earthy and roasty bitters. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Lightly sweet to finish with more roasted malts and mild cocoa. A solid, straightforward mild.

Deep ruby-brown body. Low, bubbly beige head. Roasted aroma of dark malts. Roasted chocolate malts in flavour. Thin and diluted on the swallow, but alright for a low alcohol mild. Cask, well kept half pint, before noon at White Horse, London 5 Oct 10.

Cask@Loughborough Beer Festival 2009. Brownish beer with a reddish tinge. The aroma is nicely bitter and roasted, and the flavour is watery and roasted. Overall a nicely roasted beer that tastes quite strong.

[cask at the North Wiltshire Beer Festival]. Sweet, smokey, full of deep roasted malt flavours. The best mild I’ve yet had, and for me the beer of the festival.

(Re-rate, cask at White Horse on Parson’s Green) This was quite roasty mild. Drinkability was really good. The flavours were strong but not up to disturbing levels. Roastedness and coffee were the dominating components of the taste. Aroma had some caramell, too. I couldn’t find chocolate at all. Old rating: 6-3-6-3-12=3
