It's not just the same hometown that unites Stone Brewing and Modern Times. It's an unceasing drive to create, innovate and challenge convention. (Not to mention the shared obsession with those little green miracles we call hops.) Modern Times / Stone WIzards & Gargoyles IPA is an achievement of collaborative awesomeness between two San Diego craft beer trailblazers. Centennial, Cashmere, Citra, and Azacca hops are joined by two in-development hops, yielding juicy notes of tropical citrus that play beautifully with the robust flavors and aromas of the coffee, supplied by, of course, Modern Times' caffeination masters. The result is a beer as wonderfully unique as its creators.

CO 03/06/20, BB 03/06/21, Lot E0727, 437ml can; Hazy Coffee IPA, certainly an unusual combination that works on the nose, moderate bready malt backbone, juicy stone fruit, light coffee notes underneath, grapefruit zest, orange, mild herbs & woody notes

Halmgul vätska med vitt skum. Dofter av ananas, citrus och krusbär. Hög beska som tiltar över utan balanserande maltkropp. Som ersättning har man kastat in massvis med kaffearom. Tråkig och tillgjord.

Canned 473ml. -at Goblet Zagreb. Unclear yellow coloured, medium sized white head, light coffee and some oxidation in the nose. No trace of coffee. Mild caramel and fruity with discreet touch of coffee and short finish. Undefined.

Can from Systembolaget. Hazy golden/yellow with a small white head. Aroma of mild coffee, some citrus and hints of orange. The same in the taste. The body was medium and the bitterness quite light.

16 ounce can. Hazy amber gold pour. Pillowy white head. Nose is bready malt with coffee accents. Sharp citrusy hop flavor. Notes of grapefruit, sour dough, coffee oils and lemon peel. Dank, resiny hops in finish. Interesting.

473ml can. Minimally milky, orangey golden colour with average, fluffy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Citrusy fruity and piney, hoppy aroma, caramel malty background, notes of grapefruit and lemon, a touch of tropical fruit. Taste is crisp, bitter, piney, citrusy and tropical fruity hoppy, caramel malty basis with subtle, residual sweetness, notes of grapefruit, lemon, some passion fruit, mango, very cautious hints of coffee appear not before the last third. Oily-watery texture, dry palate, fine, prickly carbonation. Rather classic West Coast IPA, very cautious coffee flavours - both breweries can do better.
