Bottle from Morrisons. Dark ruby with a thin beige head that slowly fades. Steady carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of biscuit and oats. Flavour of caramel and wood. Thin body with a watery texture. Light fizz. Earthy and rich. A thicker body and this would be pretty special.

(bottle, 4.8% abv) Dark brown, almost black colour with a beige and medium-sized foamy head. Roasty malty with notes of ground coffee and dark chocolate. Moderately bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a calm carbonation. Roasty and slightly smoked malty taste with hints of coffee, dark chocolate; dry and mildly roasty bitter finish with a delicately tartness and notes of coffee in the aftertaste. Pleasant. 16.II.18

Pours dark brown from the bottle. A creamy tan head lingers for much of the duration. Aroma is toast, chocolate, caramel, light berry hints, but on the whole subdued. Taste has a mild toast bitterness up front, then turns bittersweet almost immediately, with caramel and brown sugar accompanying the toast notes. Finishes much the same but a hint of berries and a touch sourer. Impressive range and depth for a beer of this ABV. Classified as a stout but feels more like a cross between a stout and an ESB, with more emphasis on the latter. Body stays fairly light, carbonation is moderate. Overall, a pleasant surprise and sessionable. Would like to have a few on tap.

500ml bottle. Clear, dark brown colour with average to huge, frothy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Dusty, roasty dark malty aroma, grainy hints of coffee, very cautious hints of dark berries. Taste is roasty dark malty, hints of treacle, chocolate, a touch of liquorice; slightly artificially sweetness.

Light malty aroma, black beer. Not a huge amount of taste. Earthy malt, touch of chocolate. Bit watery. Not great.
