At the request of the “Foundation Abbey, Town and Region” and the Town of Sint-Truiden, a special abbey beer was brewed on the occasion of the first open abbey days in 2002. What makes Adelardus Dubbel so special, is the use of so-called ‘gruut’. This is a mixture of about 10 different indigenous herbs. Further five types of malts and two types of Belgian hops are used. Adelardus Dubbel is a dark brown high fermentation beer, that is unfiltered, unpasteurized with a secondary fermentation in the bottle. Adelardus Dubbel has a full taste with a very soft, spicy nose and a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Clear dark brown, small yellow brownish head. nutty, dark fruity slightly oxidized aroma, also some dark caramel and some malts. Considering best before on this one is 2 years earlier than the sampling date i’d say it have survived pretty well. flavor is caramel, malts, faint spices (i think i can detect anise amongst them). ends caramelly and sweet malty.
