This year, we wanted to return to our roots, which inspired the special blend for Zwanze 2020: Lambic with beetroot!
The beer's color is intensly red, fluorescent even, and the nose is fruity yet quite earthy. The palate is complex, a nice balance between the acidity of the Lambic and the roundness of the beetroot.

Glass at the brewery.
Beet and funk, tannic. Taste is pretty smooth with a lot of fermented vegetables notes. A bit on the acidic side, but still a good one.

On tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas - Olambic Games, pours a cloudy bright red with a medium white head. Aroma is dominated by the beets (wow), with a touch of funk that’s very buried beneath the earth, almost sweet beets. Flavour is earthy and sour, with plenty of earthy beets, pronounced tartness, a little acidity, and not really any funk. I’m not sure this one works all that well.

On tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas for the Olambic Games. Pours murky red-oramge with a white head. Tons of beet on the nose. Flavour has a very prominent beet character, good funk, a bit dusty.

On tap at Moeder.
Aroma is beet forward with moderately strong notes. Lighter herbal funk, citrus and hints of oak. Light grain and alcohol notes.
Pours a hazy, orangish red with a small, thin pinkish head that recedes quickly. No lacing and faint legs.
Flavor is so somewhat acidic light grain notes. Medium light bitterness and light alcohol notes. Lots of beet notes and a light note of citrus. Light barrel notes with hints of herbal, earthy notes.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium light carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth.
Overall, a solid lambic with nice beet notes. Some nice balanced acidity and a bit of an herbal, earthy note.

On tap at Arrogant Sour Festival 2024. Hazy red with white to pinkish head. Some citrus, some berries, beetroot is definitely there, funk, some barrel. Balanced and tasty, quite incredible for what it is. The best beetroot beer I've tried.

750mL bottle at Ma Che, 5/13/24. Bright pink-beet. Pinkish head. Good clarity. Nose has hints of earthy beet and the almost blood orange-like character it provides. Some gentle sweetness balances the well-developed Brett and moderate, but mellow lactic acidity. In the mouth it's tart, fruity, zippy and piquant, with an almost smoked beet sugar character and light earthiness. I think they've done a magnificent job with this, though perhaps the four years has really helped soften and homogenize things.

EB Quintessence Trip April 16-19. Cool to finally try this. Really well executed beetroot character. Bit demanding to drink on its own but I’m sure it’s amazing with the right food pairing.

On tap at Green Bench. Garnet pour with a white head. Smells like, beets. Oh shit, that is a whole lot beet. It’s a virtual root vegetable smorgasbord. It’s was cool to run this back to back with the Aronia. Interesting but not my fav. Good body and mouthfeel.
