Bottle at home from Beer Boutique, Putney, 04/11/13. Pours very dark mahogony brown/light black with a big old beige head of bubbleage that dissipates but retains as a handsome topping. Nose is pretty hop forward so not trad for style but fulfilling none the less. berry fruits, earthy, light spice. Taste comprises earthy hops, jammy fruit, mineral bite, hint of soap but not over bearing. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, hoppy backbone to the finish. Not a mild for the purists, but a tasty hopped up venture, good drop and a bucket load of flavour for 2.9% !

330ml bottle from Borough Wines. Definitely agree with the ratings below. An astonishing depth of flavour for a 2.9% beer - I had to double check in case I mis-read. A strong aroma too of autumnal dark fruits and pine, and a nice precursor to a big bold bitterness and toasted elements that follows these prickly hops.

Bottle from Vino Wines. Black body with a thin tan head that holds well. Nice lacing. Bright aroma of blackcurrant, orange, smoke and chocolate. An astounding level of flavour for such a low-ABV beer - plum and blackcurrant with milk chocolate. Thin body with a watery, slightly oily texture. An incredible beer for its strength; it tastes more like 5.0% ABV than 2.9%. Wonderful.

Bottle from The Bottle Shop Canterbury. Black beer lasting thin beige head. Very American hoppy aroma. PNW hops. Piney. Hoppy as hell and then chocolately malts. I mean it’s a light Black IPA. God knows what style it should be. The hops are lovely. It’s like a chocolate lime sweet. Hop burps on the finish. It’s good. Not really my thing, but the hops are lovely

Keg at Hanging Bat. Pours a dark brown that you can just about see through. Little to no head. Quite high carbonation though. Red fruits and burnt sugar on the nose, quite a lot of hop bitterness on the taste. Pretty good for the strength.

Bottle at Redchurch Brewery in Bethnal Green, London. I’ve added this as a Black IPA and I feel bad because it isn’t... A 2.9% black India session ale is more apt. Spicy aroma with hints of dried fruit and hop bitterness. Bitter initial flavour peppery with a light palate of residual hop bitterness.

Bottoe at the brewery tap room - London. Pours lightly hazy brown with a moderate, frothy beige crown. Well toasted malts in the nose, charred bread, some toasty pine and grass. Light sweet flavor, some dirt, charred toast, hints of dry citrus pith, grapefruit. Light bodied with somewhat lively, massagig carbonation. Bitter dark toast to finish, burnt grass, dry toasty pine, dirt, dried grapefruit. Does a lot with the meager ABV. Nice.
