Bière de Garde is a blend of three barrels from three contrasting brews produced in January, July and October 2018. The blend produced an easy drinking, dry, malt-forward beer with balancing bitterness and funk. The bottle fermentation included a phase led by lactic acid bacteria, known as ’sickness’, which produces extra weight and fullness to the mouthfeel. Bottled in November 2019, the beer was effectively lagered in bottle at cold ambient temperatures over winter, before completing maturation in the early summer months of 2020.”

Bottle shared at Beer Merchants Tap - Hackney. Many thanks to Ed. Pours clear Copper with a creamy, off-white head. Lightly sweet with nice twang, aged berries, a little earth, wood, salt. Medium bodied with delicate, massaging carbonation. Tart, quenching finish. Sound.

Level 6 bottleshare. Thanks to Dave. A light haze on this gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and fairly dry, de decent fine carbonation. Thin malts, a little creamy sweetness offsets the almost acid tartness. Slightly winey and grapey. Dry finish. Good flavours but feckin dry and flirting with acid.

Bottle. Mills online shop. Medium amber. Soft haze. Fairly tight off white foam. Nose has lots of barrel and lots of fruit funk. Cider soaked wood here. Bit of a bourbon thing. Old hop. Leafy hop. Peppery spice. Leather. It’s all here. Taste is tart and spicy and a little bit sweet. Earthy woody bitterness. Mouthfeel is stunning. Soft and juicy with rolling foamy carbonation. Tart juicy bitterness to finish. Top class brewing and blending.
