Today marks the release of our 5th collaboration with @brouwerij_boon, Cuvée Oude Henri.⠀
⠀
And my oh my, you are in for a special treat!!!⠀
⠀
This Oude Geuze consists of a blend of 1 and 3 year old lambic, that was aged on two special oak foeders which were originally used before by a French producer of a famous white bubbly wine. ⠀
⠀
We aren't allowed to mention its name, but you’ll definitely taste what we’re talking about 🥂⠀
⠀
We really treasure our yearly collaboration with Boon, because it allows us to push boundaries and play around with a very traditional beer style together with some of the most skilled lambic producers in the world. ⠀

0.375 l bottle from 'Sterk Avondverkoop', bottled in June 2020. Almost clear, deep amber with quite some floaties and a medium large, slightly fluffy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sourish, gently fruity and slightly funky aroma of overripe lemon, oak, horse blanket, gooseberry and a touch of leather. Hardly sweet, gently sour, quite fruity and gently funky taste of overripe lemon, oak, horse blanket, gooseberry, light rhubarb, a touch of sparkling wine and traces of leather, followed by a short, gently tart, fairly woody-dry finish. Medium body, moderately astringent and gently effervescent mouthfeel, average to lively carbonation. Trademark Boon subtle and mellow Geuze, very well-balanced and quaffable, nicely refreshing as well, still fairly sophisticated and complex.

Bottle at home, perhaps from Eyre Gourmet. It pours clear oily gold with a dissipating fizzy white cap. The aroma is musty, funk, damp undergrowth, wet hay, barnyard, mouldy basement, twist of citrus, some mature cheddar and gooseberry. The taste is crisp, dry and snappy upfront, puckering lemon rinse, gooseberry, white grape, earthy, dry wood, hay, dried florals, musty, damp basement funk, brett and a touch of spice with a drying, oaky finish. Medium body and moderate, fizzy carbonation. Fun stuff.
