Imperial Stout with Mackinac Fudge Coffee, Maple Syrup and Chocolate Aged in Oak Bourbon Barrels

Michigan didn’t invent old-fashioned fudge, but it was perfected here. We pay tribute to this time-honored tradition with KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge. By amplifying the rich chocolate notes of KBS using Mackinac Fudge coffee, then adding maple syrup and aging it in oak bourbon barrels, we’ve created a bold new take on our barrel-aged classic – one that could only have originated in Michigan.

Bottle at home. Opaque black color, average sized tan head. Aroma is malts, maple, vanilla, hazelnut. Flavor is similar. There definitely is an influence of chocolate, bourbon, fudge and coffee, the latter being the strongest, but dominating is the male vanilla hazelnut -ish aroma and flavor for me. While it is interesting, for me it doesn't do it tbh. I prefer the original.

0.355 l bottle from 'Ace ', bottled in October 2020. Black with a medium large, frothy, stable, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, quite roasty and slightly fruity aroma of coffee, chocolate, cocoa powder, maple, raisins and hints of bourbon. Rather sweet, malty, quite roasty and a little fruity taste of praline, mocha, maple, hazelnut, a touch of bourbon and hints of raisins, followed by a long, fairly roasty-bitter, gently earthy, slightly boozy finish. Full body, smooth and creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Heavy, intense and rich beer. Maybe not the most complex RIS and the barrel is quite subtle but all flavours are well-integrated. Good!

Wonderful variation. Might even like this more than the original. Fudge and oak super well integrated. Light coffee and lots of sharp roast. Black pour with decent head. Rich of caramel. Oak bite with some booze and lots of roast bitterness in finish. Bottle.

6/II/21 - 12Fl. Oz. bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck (Vichte), shared @ home, 2020 release, bottled: X/26/20 (2021-117)

Clear dark brown to black beer, big solid creamy beige head, little irregular, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots and lots of chocolate, nice stuff, more dark chocolate, some coffee, caramel, vanilla, milk chocolate, more caramel. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: lots of good nice roast, coffee, heavy on the dark chocolate, mocha, caramel touch, nice bitterness, sweet, more caramel. Aftertaste: lovely roasted finish, bit sweet, quite some caramel, vanilla notes, more coffee, good bitterness, more roasted malts, coffee, quite some vanilla, bit of an alcohol burn.

Nose has some maple and molasses. Medium body, oily. Sweet, smooth, chocolate, brown sugar, a bit of roast and maple. Could have more maple. Excellent.
