Sample (thanks fonefan!). Black color, minor brown head. Aroma is maple, burnt sugary, chocolate, liquorice and very sweet. Flavour is maple, burnt sugar, syrup, some liquorice, chocolate and super sweet. A bit too sweet for my likes, but still a well brewed Impy.

One of countless strong stout variations by this strong stout specialist in Florida, aged in bourbon barrels and with added maple syrup. Mousy, beautifully deep mocha-beige, creamy, slowly breaking and dissolving head on a black beer with thin burgundy edges. Opulent, rich bouquet of indeed lots of sweet maple syrup, Ovaltine, toffee, vanilla, cinnamon, melting mocha ice cream, hazelnuts, wet wood, milk chocolate bars, almond, sweet bourbon, chestnut cream sauce, hints of wet leather, bayleaf, nutmeg, clove, tomato concentrate. Sweet, sumptuous onset, dried fig, raisins, lovely soft carb and very thick, almost syrupy mouthfeel, a natural syrupiness enhanced by the maple syrup, which adds further sweetness and spiciness, reminiscent of Ovaltine, marzipan and cinnamon in combination with this big toffee maltiness, showing a sweet hazelnutty side as well as a soft, mild toasty bitterness providing some balance against the sweetness. Warming, long, rich finish, hazelnut oil, bittersweet bourbon but the bitterness masked by ongoing maple syrup sweetness, vanilla-scenting oak retronasally, some bayleaf and cinnamon spiciness and an impression of walnut liqueur at the back. Modern American style imperial stouts tend to be sweeter than before, a trend set by highly influential beers like Dark Lord many years ago and only increased and expanded since then, but this one is so sweet from all that maple syrup that it approaches a full-blown pastry stout - but a very 'genuine' one with this opulent sweetness merely coming from maple syrup - nothing artificial is to be found here, and still with a whiff of bitterness setting it apart from 'real' pastry stouts. As usual with stouts from this brewery, the basic structure is complex, elaborate and utterly sophisticated - which is why I fell in love with Cycle stouts from the first sip I ever had of one. Only Cycle could do something as sweet as this and still veer away from the pastry stout 'chocolate sauce' trap by creating something utterly beautiful in all its details - this is, by consequence, another work of genius for me, though when given the choice, I would still prefer their less sweet stout offerings.

Pours black, no real foam at all. Scent is rich, chocolate, maple. Taste is full, jjuicy, sweet, intense, chocolate, mild heat, maple ( but not overly intense, very balanced) . mild notes of vanilla i'd say, though it shouldn't be in here. mild bourbon. Thick body, low carbo (the way I like it) Very enjoyable !

Bottle massive thanks to Kenny. It pours rich oily black with a tan cap. The aroma is rich, oily, sticky, rich roasted malt, unctuous, deep maple syrup character, donuts & sweet coffee, vanilla, bourbon soaked wood, salted pretzel and vanilla fudge. The taste is slick, thick, rich roasted malt, chewy, oily, chocolate cake, bitter - sweet, cookie dough, smooth and rich maple syrup drizzled on pancakes (not as intense as aroma though), bourbon, oak, touch of spice, chocolate sauce and vanilla with a slick, sticky finish. Fulsome body, fine carbonation and slick mouth - feel. Maple syrup works very well with the base beer. Tasty gear.
