Head gone in an eyeblink; hazy orange-yellow beer. Sourish nose, barnyard odours, wild yeasts, unripe fruit, lactic acid, bit of sulphur. Similar acidic flavour, slightly milder in the finish, which clearly discloses other grains (other than wheat too). Lemony, lactic acid, floral, refreshing. Light body, despite no visible carbonation, lively feel. Quite nice and inviting beer. Difference with a lambic - even young - is that this beer is not very complex. Complexity seems to heighten warming up, but that goes to the detriment of its refreshing quality...

Bottle shared at Maakun’s. Unclear golden with white head. Sweet grains, bretty, hay, cheesy, grapey, near mango. Sweet and soft sour, mild bitter. Medium body and soft carbonation. Very nice. A bit more carbonation would be good.

Bottle shared thanks to sjogro. Hazy golden with just a few bubbles. Sweet malts, dough, fresh bread, light tart citrus, soft herbal notes, wheat, yoghurt, peach. Medium sweet, light sour, very light bitter. Medium bodied, no carbonation. Very tasty, would probably benefit from some carbonation though.

Op tap bij Uiltje Bar. Goudgeel, licht troebel. Aroma is zurig, hint van aceton, eikenhout, vanille, wat citrus. Smaak volgt, licht aards, druiven, zuur, acetisch, eiken. Lichte body. Subtiele smaken, maar vooral smaakvol.

The literal ‘foundation’ of Nevel’s range of mixed fermentation beers, one without further additions, upon which most of their range is based – so an interesting one for anyone trying to understand Nevel’s work. Thanks Erwin for sharing! Some loose, off-white bubbles pop up during pouring, only to disappear quickly into thin air; cloudy apricot blonde robe with deeper ochre hue. Aroma of old lemon rind, sour yoghurt or kefir, moldy oranges, musty cellar, damp haystacks, earth, unripe melon, old oxidized Chardonnay wine. Tart and fruity onset, with a sweetish grape- and peach-like hint underneath; very soft carbonation – as good as flat, in fact, with a supple, dryish body ensuing, softly bready in its base with a powdery tail, but dried by this overall estery tartness reminiscent of green apple, unripe melon, sour grapes and green plum, not as complex as would be the case in lambic, but acquiring a superficially similar profile, though less funky and less ‘deep’. Some glueish, musty-woody and earthy aspects linger on. Feels a bit ‘incomplete’ to be honest, even considering the absence of further additions or other treatments – but as said, a highly interesting peek into the core of their generally very fascinating oeuvre.

Little hazy blond to light beige beer, no head. Aroma: nice fruity notes, acidic impressions, pleasant, bit lemony. MF: soft to no carbon, medium body. Taste: very nice acidity first, lots of tannins, fruity notes, bit sweet, herbal. Aftertaste: dry, lemony, bitter notes, more tannins, bit metallic.
