Bottle. Pours a dark red-brown colour with a very large, frothy, off white head. Aroma of mildly roasted coffee and chocolate, with a hint of fruit. Light to medium body, rather watery texture with soft carbonation. Quite enjoyable.

Bottle. Nose is brown sugar and toffee, hint of lactose. Taste is burnt toast, malt, slight coffee, slight liquorice. Smokey finish. Palate, is perhaps a touch thin. A reasonable stout masquerading as a porter.

Cask at The Crosse, Keys, JDW, London. Pours clear, dark ruby with a tight, off-white head. Dark toast in the aroma with some nuts. Light sweet flavor with very mellow roast character but sturdy ash notes, some faint burnt cocoa, very mild earthy bitterness. Light bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Moderately dry and roasty to finish, lightly sweet with burnt toast, burnt leaves, light earth, chalk. It’s an overall decent porter.

Light aroma of roasted malts, soft coffee, hint of chocolate - very light for a porter
Taste was a disappointment - soft roast, odd yeast, some vegetables, thin caramel, hint of rubber...something’s gone skew-whiff here....
Palate - thin mouthfeel...Finish very dry
Overall - Well this was not great...odd odd flavours

[Gravity cask at Chippenham Beer Festival] Black with a loose off-white head. Sweet and smoky with lots of toffee. I appear to have liked it but I was quite drunk by this stage and the remainder of my notes are indecipherable!

Cask @ 11th Ayrshire Real Ale Festival. Black colour, no head. Aroma is slightly roasted malts, lots of sour fruits and licorice. Flavour is sour fruits, light malted, bit of chocolate. Very fruit. Odd one.

Biggish beige-brown coarseish head. Dark red barely translucent body. Burnt milky aroma with cocoa and cedar wood notes. Dry (and faintly acidic) burnt minty resiny taste with coffee notes. Light body. Fizzy mouthfeel. Dry pine needle and earth aftertaste with burnt notes. Later still it goes grainy and strawy. Nice, drinkable, and very clear and vivid. Lovely complexity.
