Bottle. A dark, dark brown beer topped by a minimal sized beige head. At first there’s some higher alcohols, but soon repleaced by lightly sourish coffee, chocolate notes and lots of malts. Mostly coffee in the flavor, with some chocolate notes, alcohol and a little bitterness. Medium to full body, pleasantly carbonated. Lasting coffee finish. Certainly a nice one, could easily drink a few of these. 120430

0.33l bottle from beermerchants.com This one pours a dark deep deep brown body with a quickly fading thin sidesticking light brown head. The first thing I get in the aroma is tones of nailpolish and tons of chocolate. Also cocoa powder, dark roasted malts and it somehow feels really really powerful. Oh yeah! It's quite powerful this! Lots of rich dark almost acidic burned malty flavors. There is well blended chocolate and caramel here as well. Also a thin not utterly pleasant alco-boozy tone. Really oily texture and the carbonation on this one is quite soft. A bit like drinking the beer version of benzene, and I guess that's really something, huh. Would not mind this with, next to, in or as the breakfast. 16.03.2012

On tap. Opaque black with a tiny beige head. Very powerful coffee aroma atop the hard roast. Quite full-bodied, sweet hard roasted malt, vanilla and dark dried fruit - pruney. Carbonation is a little low. A slight underlying tartness appears late. Subdued bitterness. 040212

Big, a touch sweet and a touch cloying. Excellent coffee character, but I think the ABV was too high and acidity too low for the style. I felt there was lots of great components, but they didnt gel well. Still not a bad beer.

33cl bottle shared with ajax25g. Cheers for yet another awesome stout.

Bottle from Mr Lawrence Wines, Brockley. Black pour with no head. Heavy dark roast coffee nose with some dark chocolate. Coffee flavour dominates, Incredibly smooth. Sweet, roast-toasty finish. Excellent stuff once again from the Kernel!
