Bourbon barrel aged quadrupel by Holland’s most influential craft brewery, bottle from De Caigny. Pale greyish beige, mousy, open ring of a head with a veil of foam spread out over the middle; purplish-tinged ruddy bronze robe, lightly hazy, misty with sediment. Strong, lovely bouquet of rum-soaked raisins, sweet bourbon, toffee, liquorish candy, caramel, honey, soaking wet oak wood, gravy, sugared tea. Sweet onset, fig, raisins, touch of ripe blackberries and blue plums, sourish undertone, soft carb; light umami accent accompanying a full, viscous, oily, very toffeeish and walnutty malt body with lingering dried fig and raisin aspects, leading towards a warming, bourbon-boozy finish, explicitly tasting of sweet bourbon as expected (and intended) along with lovely ‘rustic’ woodiness, a herbal-spicy hop bitterish accent in the background and lots of lingering nutty maltiness. Barleywine-ish quadrupel – the Dutch, La Trappe side of quadrupel, so to speak – exhibiting a lot of depth and complexity. Should probably age spectacularly, like most of De Molen’s strong ones.

Bottle. Dark brown pour. Aroma of bitter malt, bourbon vanilla, oak, raisin, caramel and figs. Taste has somewhat harsh bourbon at first, but that flows over in soft caramel fudge, vanilla, raisin, caramelised malt, sweet figs and oak. I like it.

Sampled @ Borefts Beer Festival, Day 2. Brown color, no head. Smell and taste malts, dark malts, peach in there indeed. Liquor. Softer than the "pure bourbon-variant" it seems. Pleasant. 8-3-8-3-15. --- Beer merged from original tick of Party sQuad (Woodford Reserve BA) on 30 Sep 2018 at 12:26 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7. Borefts X. I'm ten for ten! Day 1. Keg. Lightly hazy amber beer, small cream colour head. Smooth and fairly light palate, good fine carbonation. Smooth malts bring caramel and cream and a touch of bitterish toffee. Good bourbon soaked fruits, rich and a little spicy. Dry spicy finish. Nice but any peach is lost on me.
