Bottle. Its a long long time since I drank this. Nose is sweet malt, yeast, a little brown sugar, slight cardboard. Taste is sweet malts, lactose, hint of cola, slight hint of leather, hint of hazelnut. There is no real depth to the drink, but at a £1 a bottle and with the abv it’s acceptable as a budget quaffer, and is better than a lot of the macro bitters.

Appearance is coca cola brown, ruby tinge, no head at all really. Aroma- sweet malts, slightly vinegary, dark cherries, raisin. Taste- dark malts, caramel, dry roast towards the end, coffee undertones, dark fruit hints. Ok for the abv.

Dark ruby color with a fine tan head. Light toffee and malt aroma. Light and thin toffee flavour. Also a bit sweet. Not my cup of ale.

Clear but very, very dark beer with a beige head. Aroma is light malt and sour fruit. Flavour has a bit of malt, chocolate and caramel in there but the initial hit is mostly sweet fruit. It’s not the strongest-tasting beer but the balance is quite pleasant and I’d say it’s one of the nicer sub-3% beers I’ve had.

Bottle that Dad shared with me- cheers! Dark brown with a thin beige head and a slight fizz. Chocolate dominates with some roasted malt too. It?s a bit thin, but that actually seems to work in this case. The metallic taste of pasteurization is surprisingly muted and the beer is far better than I expected. I quite enjoyed it actually!

500ml bottle from Tesco - Clear, dark brown with a tan head. Quite heavy roasted malt in the aroma, along with coffee and malty sweetness. Sweet and roasted flavour with a thin body. For a quid, it wasn’t bad.

Yet another British beer I’ve somehow forgotten to write about. 500ml bottle: BBD 31 May 2014, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard at home on 3 Sep 2013. Looked fine, a deep full head of tanned foam on top of a dark brown body with a ruby tint. The head turned into a wisp and collar mid-tasting, no lacing on my glass. The nose is sweet malty molasses, caramel being the main aroma I picked up. The taste is also on the malt molasses side of sweet, again with caramel to the fore, joined now though with some chocolate, coffee and vanilla notes. Considering this is only 2.8% ABV it carries a fair flavoursome punch, obviously a bit thin body wise but still an easy and pleasant mild/brown to have at lunchtime, which is when I had it. Glad I realised I hadn’t reviewed this beer and made the effort to buy another bottle after a few years without trying it.

Nawet dobre Ale. Mild ja bym tego nie klasyfikowal no moze ze wzgledu na niski alkohol. Bardziej w smaku zblizone do Brown Ale. Karmelowe nuty slodowe bombarduja wrecz podniebienie, piana srednia lekko opalizujaca. Posmak karmelowego slodu na dlugo pozostaje w ustach.

Bottle shared at home - cheers Steven! Pours a dark brown with thin tan head. Aroma is roasted coffee and chocolate. Very sweet, no hop presence. Good body for the strength. Sweet finish. I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would!

I’ll go with the flow on this, as I am completely unfamiliar with the style, and being mild, perhaps the palate is supposed to be light. Taste is very "roasty", oaken bitterness, burnt toast, some cola sweetness, but overall light in mouthfeel and aftertaste. Aroma is also very light and appearance is dark brown with minimal head. Intersting drink, would like to try another brand to compare notes.
