Inoffensive older style ale, very mild in character with a small sweetness and some small roasted malts for its flavour. Very dark with no head and a very light character making it very easy to sup.

500ml bottle. Pours a dark ruby brown-black, with a foamy tan head that diminishes and a malty aroma. Taste is sweet malt & cola-like, with a roasted, nutty edge. Smooth light body, medium carbonation level with a dryish finish. OK considerating the low alcohol level.

Bottle from one of the supermarkets. Poured like a flat cola with a broken tan head. The aroma is weak, but there is some dry maltiness there. The flavour is weak bitter and some malt and that’s where it ends really. The palate is weak and there is no real aftertaste. I don’t dislike this beer, but at the same time, it’s nothing special either. It it floats your boat then great, but sadly my boat is somewhere down there with the Titanic!

Bottle at the Cricketers, Shirley. It pours dark brown with a small beige head. The nose is sweet, flat cola, hint of toast and nut. The taste is cola, light roasted malt, weak coffee, toffee and cardboard with a dry, sweet finish. Light body and moderate carbonation. Not much to it really... A simple, sweet brown ale. Can?t say I agree with the official description of "full-bodied with a luscious flavour". Not too different to flat cola really!

Bottle 500ml
Cola-like colour, ruby edges in glass,, big fizzy tan head that dissipated to thin layer, almost no lacing
Aroma - sweet caramel malts, dark sugars, slight sweet chocolate
Taste - sweet caramel malts, some dark creamy toffee, bit of sweet chocolate, slight mineraly twang, cola notes, bit watery, more like a soft drink
Palate - very low carb, thin body, slighty viscous, smooth mouthfeel, but rather flat.. Finish as main flavour, leave a bt of a sweet residue.
Overall - Wasn’t expecting much for 89p - but it was quite drinkable and better tasting than some Marstons’s beers (which isn’t hard). Just a soft, very light sweet low abv dark ale. Nothing remarkable - but it’s of historic interest I suppose. It’s still below average but better than some efforts at 2.8% which have been appalling

50cl bottle from ABCBeers. Decent off white head which disappears quickly. Clear ruby brown pour. A bit lacking in carbonation and thin but still pretty drinkable.

On Tap @ the Royal Oak in Clee Hill, Shropshire. Pours like a cola, black with some froth and bubbles. The nose has a hint of chocolate with some smokiness. The taste has more chocolate and then a nice liquorice note. The palate is medium bodied and textured with a nice fresh finish. Overall, this is really pleasant and tastey for a low alcohol beer.

Bottled (from Beers Of Europe). Deep amber colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is mild fruits, some slight metallic notes, mild wood as well as mild bittery notes. Flavour is mildly toasted malts, some slight fruityness, mild grass, some syrup, birch sap as well as some wooden notes. Quite rich tonguetickling carbonation.

Bottle shared with Lyoli. Pours semi-clear, red-brown with a modest, light tan head. Sweet, caramel, brown sugar and cake aroma. Pretty nice flavor, a bit sweet with some syrupy, sugary bread, caramel and cheap toffee. Perhaps some prune or raisin or something. Light to medium in body with average carbonation. Sugary, malty finish with more caramel, bread and some kind of fruit. Not bad. A little awkward but not bad.
