The 13th batch pressed in 2018 were some lovely Red Pears from Simon Dent in Preston Wynne. Pressed and then pumped directly into some super Ornellia red wine barrels. (with thanks to James @littlepomona for sharing a load. I could tell by his excitement that they would be good barrels). We chose this combination to see if we could garner a touch of colour and see if the wine wood and pears went well together. I shall leave you to be the judge of that.

A burnished tangerine glint. Delicate, honeysuckle nose, fruity with plum to the fore. Drink solo and savour.

Bottle. Clear pale gold. No head bar a few bubbles. Nose has like an orange wine character. Which makes sense. Funk. Oak. Semi sweet red wine. Stinky tannic apple. Taste is dry tannic with some stewed apple sweetness. Not entirely still, which is fine by me. Good depth. Tannins and oak to finish. It’s class no doubt but I like my bevs fizzy.

Sample, thanks to Danlo. Unclear dull copper appearance. Lightly fuzzy tone to this, moderately dry. Not getting too much red wine influence but overall its a nice oily, gently sweet perry with fleeting woody moments.

25/8/2020. Sample courtesy of danlo, cheers Ed! Pours clear golden with a small bubbly white head. Aroma is baked pears, a little woody, touch of citrus and tannins. Moderate sweetness and very light tartness. Moderate body, soft carbonation. Dry, tannic, astringent finish.

750ml bottle from Fine Cider Company Pommelier Club. Golden colour, short-lived white bubbly head and aroma of pear, fruity. Taste is sweet, pear, fleshy, citric, fruity with red wine hints and drying bitter tannins. Medium bodied, low carbonation, dry tannic finish. Nicely drinkable.
