A complex mix of speciality & dark malts make up the grist with cane molasses added in the boil, the beer then being left to age in ex bourbon barrels. Coffee, vanilla and toasted coconut flakes were introduced before packaging to further compliment the beer's richness and complexity.

We packaged the beer and let it rest in our cold store for a year to allow the flavours to meld and develop. The cane molasses have produced deep cherry flavours, whilst the malts have remained thick and roasty, with undercurrents of vanilla, coconut & coffee.

Can thanks to Fergus, split at the 2nd test lockdown tasting, Hazlemere, 16/07/20. Pitch black with a well presented tan cap. Nose is dark malts, chocolate, dark fruit rinds, touch of alcohol, chocolate dipped raisins. Taste comprises toffee, hint of coffee, trace of booze, fruit cake, light spice, chocolate. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light cloying close. Passable impy stout ... firmly stuck in third gear ... Ok sipper but ultimately a bit of a let down.

Had this sat in the garden Saturday 27th June 2020, courtesy of Dad and a beer parcel he sent, we're having a live beer tasting with Scott and Dad. Loz is about to cook Gnocchi with Blue Cheese. Listening to I Break Horses - Heart. Pours black with a tan head. Rich and chocolatey but with a fruity tang, tart cherries probably. It's nice to have an imperial stout that isn't full of lactose or 101 different adjuncts, this one clearly displays coffee, bourbon and vanilla, but with a tart tangy edge, I think that a longer period of ageing may have seen it soften some of the edges and further develop.
