A traditional full flavoured mild, with a dark brown colour and red tinges this mild contains lots of dark malt flavours and aroma. A refreshing and moreish beer paying homage to the now scarce style.

22/4/2020. Sample courtesy of the SHIG, cheers! Pours just about clear amber brown with a short lasting off-white head. Aroma is nutty, malty, milky chocolate, slightly fruity and herbal. Medium sweetness and light bitterness. Light body, not unexpected with it's low abv. It's ok.

Thin beige head left a spotty cover on a murky reddish brown still body. Roasted & nutty aroma. Medium to thin bodied, nicely carbonated over the tongue with a cloying back. Nutty, light malt, roasted, tea & berry tastes with tangy finish.

500ml Bottle - Dark brown with red tinges. Blackcurrant, cherries, chocolate and dried fruit in the aroma. Blackcurrant, cherries, almonds, chocolate and hints of vanilla and raisins. An enjoyable and tasty mild, especially for being only 3.3%.

Cask hand pump at the Trafford Arms - Norwich. Pours clear brown with a frothy, off-white head. The nose holds toasty bread, impressions of cocoa. Light sweet flavor with mellow dried fruits, berries, plum, soft cocoa, hints of earth. Light bodied with fine carbonation; great nick. Balanced finish with more toasted brown bread, suggestions of toffee and chocolate, more ripe, lightly dried fruits. A classically styled mild.

Cask at the Townhouse, Ely. Very dark brown with a trifling tan head. Chocolate malt and slight charcoal smell. Taste starts sweet but descends to an unfortunate bitter/sour. Medium finish. Flat weak body. Not great but not terrible either.
