Saison is an old recipe originating from the Hainaut tradition. It was brewed by all breweries at the beginning of the last century. In honour of the founder of the brewery, who produced Saison for the “cayoteux” or local quarrymen, this beer was once again produced in 1982. It is a golden coloured beer with an impressive head. The hop aroma is dominant with hints of flowers, resin and spices. Its density makes it a beer for special occasions and great moments.

Flesje thuis gedronken. Oranje-achtig helder bier met stevig schuim. Geur en smaak is zuur. Nasmaak is iets bitter.

Bottle from Carrefour in brussels. Hazy orange color big bubbly offwhite head, expansive, reducing fairly persistent. Aroma is a bit off, tastes like wheat with mint, grass, orange, coriander, but quite dirty. Dry lemony aftertaste, dusty fluffy texture. Hmm, not good as i would have expected.

zapach dość czysty ale kwaśny, w tle dość wytrawne słody, trochę kurzu i przypraw i lekkie dzikie nuty, ale wszystkiego tego trzeba się doszukać pod silnymi kwaśnymi, cytrynowymi/kwaskowo cytrynowymi zapachami. kolor jasnego bursztynu, równomiernie , dość mocno zmętniony. piana biała, drobna, bardzo obfita i dosyć trwała. w smaku wytrawne, lekkie, lekko wodniste, lekko kwaskowe, mączne, z pozytywnymi nutami kurzu, lekkimi nutami przypraw i dzikimi. goryczka niska, mimo wytrawności piwa, lekko ziołowa i bardzo czysta. nasycenie bardzo wysokie.

0.33 l bottle from ’Belgiuminabox.com’, best before October 2016. Slightly hazy, golden yellow with a massive, foamy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, slightly yeasty-spicy and a bit grassy aroma of straw, clove and a touch of banana. Slightly sweetish, yeasty-spicy and slightly grassy taste of hay, light crackers, clove and a touch of banana, followed by a medium long, moderately grassy-bitter, slightly peppery-dry finish. Medium body, slightly creamy and quite effervescent mouthfeel, average to lively carbonation. Would have been nicer fresh I guess, still easily drinkable and not too bad.

F: big, white, good retention. C: deep gold, almost clear. A: light sour fruity, hint of barnyard, citrus, spicy. T: malty, fruity, hint of earthy, orange, medium body, good carbonation, like a lager combined with saison but not bad thirst quencher, 0,33l bottle from Prik&Tik /Quali-drinks/ in Brussels.

0.33l bottle. Hazy orabge body, huge white head. Aroma of bread, orange zest, pears and doughy yeast. Taste of bread, toast, lemon zest and earthy hops. The finish is quite hoppy. OK beer but doesn’t remind me of a saison.

Helder donkergeel bier met schuim. Smaak is heel licht friszuur en ietwat bitter. Niet echt bijzonder maar zeker niet slecht.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 25B). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L19022017. AROMA: medium_low intensity grainy-sweet malt aroma with a moderate fruity note (citric orange/lemony). There is a faint lactic-like sout aroma that just adds complexity. APPEARANCE: deep gold and translucent. very large white to off-white creamy head with very good retention. TASTE: initial malty-grainy sweet flavor with medium intensity, gaining a honey-like note. medium-low fruity notes of orange-like character. medium-low bitterness that lasts into a dry finish. hop flavor very faintly perceived as floral. PALATE: medium-low to low body with high carbonation and a very present dry finish. no astringency nor harshness. OVERALL: a very nice Saison with all the characteristics within the style, including a nice dry finish without being astringent nor harsh. the hops are very restrained, just adding a note of bitterness to balance the malt. maybe would be more complex with a bit more esters.
