It was a long, long time ago, that the Hofbräu Maibock was brewed for the first time: In 1614 the bottom-fermented beer specialty filled beer steins for the first time. Even today, Munich's oldest bock beer is still as popular as ever with its full-bodied, malty flavor. The relatively high alcohol content of 7.2% Vol. doesn’t do things half-way – and satisfies, especially honest beer connoisseurs.

Sorry this week’s Tuesday Tasting is kind of small. I am waiting on a beer shipment so had to resort to getting this 500¥-ish Seijo Ishii beer: Hof Brau Maibock 7.2% A bright clear orange with a thick beige head that doesn’t linger so long unfortunately. The aroma is grainy honeyed biscuits and bready light caramel sweetness. Kind of simple but nice enough. Fairly full bodied with malt caramel sweetness upfront with a slick mouthfeel. You then get a bit of herbal hop bitterness before the sweetness returns. A fairly simple maibock but easily available. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught @ Hofbräuhaus, München (as Urbock). Smooth, earthy and slightly sweetish malty bock with some grass, hay, hops, caramel and toffee. Fresh and smooth.
