Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue’s Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole’ black and tan!

650 ml bottle. Pours a red-copper color with very light head. Aromas of malt, light brown sugar, and hot pepper. Smoky malt flavor. Not really any pepper flavor or heat. Nice enough.

Draught @ Rogue Ale House, San Francisco. Rated on 19.07.2012
Aroma is quite light with some malt. Flavour is quite flat with some spices and malt. Where’s the chipotle?

22 oz. bottle (thanks Joe!). A copper beer with thin, beige head. The aroma is caramel, peppers, and some pine hops. The flavor is fairly bitter, a little sweet and spicy. The palate is medium to heavy, hard and mineral. Overall, this is a fairly straightforward chile beer, but not bad.

After gym was feeling a bit too healthy so stopped in stags head for quick pint. Pours dull orange with no head. Light peppery nose. Tastes initially only mild of smokey chipotle but as it warms and it becomes more and more present. Also got hints of earth, nutmeg, leather, malt, and hops bitterness. Ok

A dark reddish amber with a thick collapsing mocha head. In aroma, a sweet nutty and grassy malt with definite predominating chipotle pepper. In mouth, a strong chipolte attack, lightly smoked and herbal, with nutty malt, caramel, light hopping wafting through...interesting for a few sips, but this is too chipotle for me...and i do like rauchbeers. Bottle from LCBO.
