A DIPA with a difference. Starts with a fairly mild malt and vegetal nose. Beautiful orange/amber body with a thin well laced white head. The brown sugar malt leads the taste profile but quickly gets more challenging with gnarley grapefruit and earthy hops, prunes, vegetal, oak and woody elements. Some challenging tastes, but Beau’s isn’t afraid of doing that. There is a slight warmth from the booze, strong effervescence and a slight metallic edge as well. The blend keeps coming together as the beer breaths and approaches room temperature. A nice creation but I won’t be coifing one of these every night

600ml bottle from the LCBO.

Darm amber pour, small white head. Aroma is filled with boozy, sherry, oaky malts that are woody and sticky. there is very little hops in the aroma, just tinges of grass and pine. the body is viscous, and sticky. The finish is quite bitter with a little bit of hops, and a big slam over the head with boozy, sticky, woody malts. I’m not sure this is an IPA. I also don’t understand the reason for oak ageing IPA’s.

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a giant head with great retention (also a little bit of gushing was noticed which makes me wonder if the bottle was infected). Aroma of caramelized malt with earthy hops is OK. Taste is dominated by sweet caramelized malt with some earthy hops notes. Body is pretty full with lots of carbonation. I don’t like IIPA with too much caramel malt so I can’t say I really enjoyed that one.

600ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a very clear deep copper with a big tan head. Aroma is oak and bread and some faint citrus. Huge grapefruit bitterness throughout but well tempered by sweet malts (maybe too much) and the oak. Alcohol is also nicely kept at bay. Medium slick body with average carbonation. Long dry bitter finish.

Part of their "Best of Beau’s" 4-pack for 2012. Nice to try one of the early Wild Oats Series (No. 3) and with a 9.9% ABV. this time. Pours a clean copper colour with a beige head, decent retention and dirty lacing. Interesting hoppy nose with warm caramel malt and alcohol. Hints of tropical fruits and nuts even. No burning at all in the mouthfeel (is this really a 10% ABV. brew ??). Goes down too smoothly... ha, ha. Nice warming taste of grapefruits, caramel, with notes of nuts, wood and hop dryness. This is quite good for a cold winter and the 99 IBUs balance things very well.

A hazed dark amber ale with a thin white head. A pleasant sweet malt aroma, light vinous notes with smooth hops and butterscotch. In mouth, a sweet barley wine like I2PA with sweet malt, British herbal hops, nice and lingering, treacle, warming alcohol. Quite nice for the last remains of the keg. On tap at Cheshire Cat, May 29 2010.
