Huge roast, cocoa, soft pine resin, loads of burnt soy, and malts. I can taste some black ipa, but it's leaning more towards a hoppy American imperial Stout. Great beer, just wrong category. Highly bitter, big, boozy, and hoppy, with a huge amount of burnt malts. Big beer

On tap at Brewskey, Montreal. An almost black beer, with a dense, dark beige head on top. The aroma is roasted and chocolatey, nice but a tad one tracked. It’s smooth and roasted on the palate, full to medium bodied and with flavors of roasted malts and a load of dark chocolate. Roasted malts and lots of dark chocolate in the finish. A bit one dimensional this one, nice though. 150611

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, citrus grape and alcohol. Taste is meidum sweet and medium bitter with a long warm, chocolate, caramel, citrus, grape and licorice finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Aroma: Bitter chocolate and caramel are dominant. Also roasting accents, smoked bacon and coffee. Appearance: Opaque black with generous head and nice lacing. Taste: Full chocolate with bitter coffee and roasted caramel accents. A good combination of malty accents. Mouthfeel is very well balanced. Flavors are sticking out a lot. A very good beer. My best black IPA as of now.

Bouteille 500ml. De couleur brune très foncée / noire et opaque. Nez de mélasse sucrée, de malt rôti doux, moyen de chocolat noir et de caramel toffee avec des notes de café, de fruits (raisins) et de houblon herbeux. Moyenne-ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen ainsi qu’une texture riche et moyennement crémeuse. Léger goût fruité (raisins) accompagné d’un léger goût de caramel toffee rôti lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute rapidement un moyen goût de mélasse amère et sucrée ainsi qu’un léger goût de chocolat noir puis à mesure que l’on approche de la finale, une légère-moyenne amertume de houblon herbeux se développe en compagnie d’un léger goût d’alcool doux et des notes de café, Post-goût long-moyen, moyennement amer de rôti et de houblon herbeux avec un léger goût d’alcool ainsi que des notes de chocolat et des petites traces de fruits (moût de raisins).

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a dark brown foamy with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of roasted malt with light resin notes and light hoppy pine notes. Taste is also a mix between some huge roasted malt with light residual sugar notes with a medium to light resin hoppy finish. Body is full with nice creamy texture and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Not bad but seriously lacking in level of hops considering the style.

A deep reddish brown ale with a thin brown head. In aroma, a nice plum with molasses, licorice, some light funky hops, interesting. In mouth, a nice sweetish nutty malt, treacle, molasses, dark fruits, floral British hops, viscous and nutty, very nice. On tap at Bieres et Saveurs, Sept.3 2011.
