dark brown colour, minimal beige-is off-white head; aroma and taste is dominated by coffee with herbal liqueur and woody notes, as well as some dried fruits and spicy alcohol (and, as it is warming, some syrupy sweetness is also appearing in the taste); good!

Flasche (33 cl) vom Bierzwerg. - Pechschwarz, dunkelbeigefarbener kurzlebiger Schaum.

Poured from a bottle courtesy of my Summer Secret Santa. Aroma is roasty with some moderate dark chocolate notes. Fairly strong coffee character with a nice, dark nuttiness to it. As it warms a bit more chocolate comes out and some light alcohol notes. Pours black with a large, thick, mocha head that steadily recedes to a thin film that lingers thicker on the edges. Medium lacing and medium small legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with moderate dark chocolate notes. Some light roast chaarcrer with a touch of ash. Moderately strong dark coffee notes with some moderate bitterness in the finish. Some faint alcohol notes. A light anise note. Some lingering sweetness with bitter coffee. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied and slightly creamy with medium carbonation. Low, but present astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice coffee stout with a darker coffee presence than I often see here in the US. Pretty easy drinking with nice chocolate notes.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 20C). Bottle 33 cl - Batch A. AROMA: very nice and intense aroma of roasted malt with a strong cocoa note. faint background coffee beans notes. low hop aroma. APPEARANCE: very dark brown and almost opaque. average tanned head with good retention. TASTE: predominant roasted flavour with strong notes of cocoa with a slight vinous aspect and some dried dark fruits (plums). some spicy notes are present. medium bitterness from hops and roasted malts. near dry, bitter and roasted finish. PALATE: full body with a very present velvety texture. slight alcohol warmth and moderate carbonation. OVERALL: a very good imperial stout with an extra spicy touch that gives a unique note.

Keg at Arendsnest, 7th May 15. Deep dark, fairly well balanced, nice coffee, good liquorice comes through. Nice Stout, not as good as the white label stuff
