Schwarzbier, or black beer, is a dark lager that originated in Germany. With an opaque, black colour and hints of chocolate and coffee notes. Similar to stout in that it is brewed with roasted malt, which gives this beer dark colour.

Bottle from Beer52. Dark brown, no head, middling fizz. Cardboard, cabbage, brown sugar and a touch of chocolate. Thin and fizzy, a little powdery a with a dryish finish. Unpleasant vegetable aftertaste - more cabbage. This is poor, verging on grim - not just a fake brewery name with concealed origins, but also a terrible brew.

33cl bottle, via Beeer52 (just like everybody else): BB 14th Sep 2021. Drank at home on 16th Nov 2020. This is a pretty boring dark lager to be honest. Malty and semi-sweet, but not much going on aroma or taste wise, bland and uninteresting for me.

[33cl bottle from Beer52.] A cola coloured pour with gentle carbonation and next to no head; weak chocolate aroma; sugary sweet with a watery body; and some sugary chocolate to finish. Poor.

330ml bottle. My first Schwarzbier. Pours black, small beige fizzing head which doesn't last too long. Aroma of chocolate malts, slight floral and fruity hop. Taste is chocolate, light roasted malt, some darker fruits in the finish with a mild bitterness. Light body and moderate carbonation. I quite enjoyed this one, its a bit light but fine for a lager. Easy tasty drinking.

Aroma is bready with a hint of dark fruits. Pours almost jet black with minimal transient beige head. Mouthfeel is toffee and parkin with fruity undertones. Sweet and malty with hints of chocolate. Finish is dark fruits but somewhat watery. Jury is out on this one …
