Trunk of Funk is an annual celebration of the seasons. Each autumn, we brew a strong, dark ale on to foraged fruits and age in freshly emptied red wine barrels, where our house cultures work their sour magic. 12 months later we blend back on to the new seasons foraged fruit. Then we bottle, condition and when it's ready, we share that funk with the world.

25th October 2021. Shrewsbury Beer Share in Chez Sophie; 5 guys splitting beers and talking bollox, great fun. Cheers Mike for this, the 750ml bottle of the 2019 version (BB 19th November 2023). Sour dark berries dominate this moody brew. Reddy brown with an off-white wisp on top. Just a tad too tart for me.

Keg @ Cellar Bar, Chester. Hazed deep amber appearance, thin bubbles atop. Vinous berries on the nose. Good vinous character overall, sticky acidity, ripened berry, vimto, bold earthy funk with a boozy undercurrent. Quite satisfying.

Keg at IMBC. It pours hazy dark brown with a small beige head. The aroma is oily, earthy roast, oak, leather, berry skin, baslamico, jammy, vanilla and Victoria sponge. The taste is dry, tart, tangy, acidity, wood, damp leaves, berry skin, vinous, leather, some mouth pucker, toasted nut and cacao with a dry, tangy finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Hides abv well. Decent.

Keg at IMBC 2018, session 4. Pours unclear amber-brown with a foamy, tan head. Lots of tart, aged berries, leather and earth, mellow acidity. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Quenching finish, more dried, leathery berries. Good stuff.
