Old rating, tap @ Naboen:
Fyldig lukt med preg av mørk malt, humle, kaffi, mørk sjokolade, laktose, karamell. Fyldig sødmerik smak med preg av mørk malt, humle, kaffi, karamell, mørk sjokolade, rista nøtter og gras. God bitterhet som set litt. God.

Fra fat på Cardinaltreff, sep-11, sammen med Nøgne Ø’s utgave: et meget interessant møte, hvor Ægir gikk av med en knepen seier. Noe lysere enn NØ men bedre skum. Karamell- og nøtteaktig bokkølaroma og behagelig humleinnslag. Gode begge to, men Ægir hadde en rikere munnfylde.

On tap @ Patricks. Tasted side by side with the Nøgne Ø version. Dark brown body with a small beige head, less darker than NØ. Aroma of sweet malt, coffee and dry fruit. Smells similar to the NØ versjon but slightly stronger with more fruit and no tobacco. Flavor is sweet malt but with less hops than NØ e.g. more hop aroma and less hop bitterness. Full body and long aftertaste. Feels a bit lighter than the NØ version still very nice. Easier to drink but less malt flavor. Somehow this one is closer to a shwartzbier and NØ is closer to a barley wine to explain the difference.

I had a taster of this on tap at Amundsen just after I had finished the NØ version. This one is not as dark in body colour as the one from NØ. Has got a low, beige head leaving fragile lacing at the glassware. Semi-sweet, malty nose. Dark caramel, anise and notes of dried fruits to the taste buds. Lingering spiced bitter ending. Foamy in the mouth. Pleasing stuff (Oslo, 26.09.2011).

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV was said to be 7%. If the two versions were labelled correctly: The Ægir version has a ruby colour (significantly paler than the Nøgne Ø version), The aroma is more moderate, but the notes of smoke are distinct. Drier flavour, more carbonation, medium sweet. More distinct notes of liquorice and smoke. Salty notes.

On tap at Patricks. An opaque brown beer with a small, brown head. Lightly roasted nose with a healthy dose of caramel and dried fruits. Surely sugary, pleasantly hopped and with some alcohol. Full-bodied and lightly warming, almost sticky. Sweet, caramel flavor with a touch of alcohol and dried fruits. Bitterness bringing some balance to it. Long finish bringing warmth down the throat. Finally a microbrewed Norwegian bock, hopefully it will not be a one-off. 110919
