Inspired by a trip to Belgium and designed to resemble the character of lambic found in the town of its namesake, Train to Beersel showcases a slightly higher ABV than you’ll find in most other lambics. As such, the body of the beer is more pronounced, adding a certain roundness to the sour notes while elevating the customary level of funk. Additional complexity is derived from extensive aging in once used French Oak Cabernet Sauvignon barrels and once used American Oak Sauvignon Blanc barrels, and by utilizing the time-honored tradition of bottle conditioning with Brettanomyces Lambicus. It’s an inviting combination that’s full of nuanced turns - and an excursion that’s rarely replicated on this side of the globe.

750 ml from 2019 RS. Clear golden appearance. Aroma is sulphuric acid, lemon rind, old citrus. The flavor is a carbon copy of the aroma. Pretty sour but mostly to style. Sort of. Ok.

29 November 2019. At Billie's Craft Beer Fest. Cheers to the lovely Anke, tderoeck, 77ships & Ghent beer crew! Clear golden, no head. Aroma of cheese, wet straw, grapes, wood, mandarin, white wine. Taste has sour lemon, plum & vinegar, funky straw, bitter grapes & wood. Soft sweetish fruity aspect. Very tart, lemony, funky finish, quite woody. Medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation. Not too shabby an interpretation.

2017 bottle shared at Fierce. It pours clear golden with a medium white head. The aroma is musty, funky, lemon peel, granny smith apple, sherbet and dirt. The taste is dry, tart, puckering, acidic, musty, funky, leather bright, grapefruit, leather, birscher museli and lemonade with a dry, acidic finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. A bit acidic, but fun.

Draught No head left, faintly veiled orangey-golden beer. Winebarrels, extremely aromatic-vinous, white wine. Sourish-vinous. Finish has incense, which is a classical hint at aged precious wine. Acidthinning and -burning. Light to medium bodied. D*mmit Patrick, how do you do it? Another outstanding wine-beer marriage.
