Bottle from Geers. Hazy black, small, frothy, beige head. Aroma of cocoa nibs, toast, dried fig, prune, black tea, wet tobacco, cold coffee. Taste has sweet-sour prune, unripe plum, blackberry, lemony side with dark chocolate & pure coffee bean accents, ending dry & toasty, some herbal hops & liquorice, lingering sour dried fruits. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation. Sour Porters are always love or hate for me, this one is definitelly well done!

37.5cl Fles bij DeRat. Zwarte kleur, beige kraag. Aroma is lichtzuur, funky, wat hout, geroosterd, wat chocolade. Smaak is verrassend fris voor een porter, licht fruitig, iets zuur, geroosterd, chocolade, nootjes, lichtbittere finish. Lichte body. Prima spul.

Bottle at home, bought at the source! Unclear dark brown with light creamy head. Roasted malts, distant rotten oakwood, rainbarrel. Bit watery and simple. Yesterday I tried Noest Batch#1 which had a bit of age on it and it was more complex. Today I wanted to find out if Tumult is similar to Noest and I agree on that. I had tried Noest as well when it was fresh, and then I had a similar experience as I have now. So I’d advice to store this beer for about a year after bottle date! Much more complex then!

Sour porter by Nevel formerly known as Noest, thanks to Meeki Meekio for sharing at Nevel's tap takeover in Bar Beenhouwer, Ghent. Medium sized, pale beige, irregularly lacing head on a very dark chocolate brown beer with hazy burgundy edges of about half an inch deep. Aroma of ground roasted walnuts, dried blackberries, coffee grounds, old dry tree leaves, sour cherries, rainwater, compost, old liquorish. Sweetish onset drenched in drying tartness, blackberry, sour grape and some blue plum, estery, fizzy carbonation, supple body; slick nutty maltiness, acorn shells and soggy toast, with an earthy tail adding a leafy, compost-like note as well as something liquorish-like, while the overall lactic tartness continues to dry the palate. Earthy, dry but still feeling 'full' and rounded, I liked this one more than the conceptually comparable Ven by the same brewery. Would love to revisit this at home.
