Big hops have big egos. Simcoe faces off against Wakatu. A lively aroma of citrus, fresh mango and wet summer pine follows through to the palate, with a clean, clear bitterness.

500ml bottle. Cloudy, orangey golden colour with average to huge, fluffy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Citrusy, piney and tropical fruity, hoppy aroma, notes of grapefruit, orange, orange zest, some pineapple, resin and mango. Taste is crisp bitter hoppy, piney, resinous and citrusy, notes of lemon, grapefruit, orange zest, some mango; lingering bitter and hop oily finish. Clean, crispy bitter - good.

Light haze on this gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and airy, reasonable fine carbonation. Soft malts, little creamy sweetness. Hops bring a light but fairly light orange, tangerine and lemon. Modest pine. Light finish. A little light overall but fine.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Hazy, dark orange. Thin, fully lacing, lasting, white head. Looks great. Nose has fairly muted notes of candied peel, particularly orange and mandarin. Some stone fruit. Sweet grain. Hint of the oats, but they’re well in the background, thankfully. Taste is sweet, to start, getting ripe stone fruit bitter. Juicy on the palate. Soft fizz. A little drying. Juicy finish. Doesn’t leap out of the glass, aroma wise, but it’s a beautifully balanced IPA, overall.
