Hop-focused wheat beers are uncommon in the UK, but we've always enjoyed exploring the balance between a bold, modern hop profile, classic yeast esters and a pillowy body. In the past, we have used a German hefeweizen yeast strain to make Hopfenweisse but this time we decided to experiment with a Belgian Wit strain. The resulting beer is more Houblon-Wit than Hopfenweisse, which provides a phenolic, spicy yeast profile.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up at the London taproom. Pours unclear gold with a foamy, white head. Great beer, nice melon and grapefruit, some lime rind, wheat bread, mellow rindy bitterness, orange peel, tangerine. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. More assertive rindy and lightly piney bitterness in the finish, further wheat bread notes, more pithy grapefruit and tangerine, more melon, lime. Drinks really well.

Can. CW online, I think. Hazed, pale gold. Loose foam of white. Nose has cough candy twist sweets. Banana and porridge. Nicely bright, peachy hop on top. Taste has a wheaty sweetness, with a fruity, fairy juicy hop oil bitterness. Medium body. Foamy carbonation. Very estery. Well balanced bittersweet finish. Nice one.
