Hand-pulled pint at The Pheasant Inn and Brewhouse on 2nd August 2023. Malty black beer with both chocolate and (mild) coffee flavours and aroma. Easy drinking and leaning towards sweet, before the hops kick in and balance out the maltiness.

Half-pint, cask at Piccadilly Tap. Shared with Finn. A coal black body under a fair, beige head. Upper part lacing. Inviting aromas of roasted chocolate malts, and dark dough. Dark-malt driven flavours chocolate, nuts, and earth followed by a roasted malty end of coffee-chocolate. Pleasing. (Manchester 11.10.2022).

Delt med Rune. Ultramørkebrun. Mokkafarget filmskum. Lakrisaroma. Smaken mere lakris. Hint av kaffe etter hvert. Tørr, forsiktig bitter avslutning.

Can. Mitchell’s Wines, Sheffield. Clear dark brown with a scummy looking, beige head. Nose has gravy browning. Ashy wood. Wood shavings. Whiff of coffee bean. Hint of vanilla. Taste is ashy and dry, with a fairly deep, roasty, charred bitterness. Light to medium body with brisk carbonation. Lingering bitterness to finish. Decent, and would probably be a nice beer to try on cask.

Can from Craft & Berry. Appearance - dark brown to black. Tan head. Nose - malt loaf, molasses and liquorice. Taste - very dry edge of molasses. Smoky and liquorice too. Palate - close to medium bodied. Dry, smoky roasty finish. Overall - simple-ish stout. Should probably be under 'dry stout' style.

440 ml can, from Bier Huis, Ossett. ABV is 4.8%. Black colour, huge tan head, takes "forever" to settle. Aroma of roast malts, mild coffee and chocolate, some vinous hints in the background. Roasty flavour, medium dry, coffee and dark chocolate again, distinct bittering hops in the finish.

440ml can. Gluten Free. Black-brown colour with reddish tinge, foamy beige head leaving lacing and aroma of roasted malt, meaty, ashy, some coffee notes. Taste is sweetish, burnt roasty, malt, tangy, coffee, spicy hint, with nutty and earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry roast bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.
