Almost black with a frothy, beige head. Charred grain aroma, garden bouquet, coffee, dark chocolate. Taste is mildly bitter, full of toast and Schwarzbrot. Body is to the light side of medium, a bit oily with a light watery texture on the backside. Not bad, just needs more heft.

I’ve been on this trip to Scandinavia for over a week and have not had an IPA during the time. I obtained this black IPA in Oslo to change that. Lift the tab on the 330 ml can and drain into a tall pilsner. Assuredly black in color completed by a tremendous eggshell brown head, good lacing possibility. The scent is spruce and cut grass. A drink and taste, of course is a blend of IPA and a stout. Pine needles, hops, malt, scorched pecans, some roastiness. Finely bitter. Glad to have the try.

Can. It pours a clear-looking reddish deep brown body under a finger-thick beige head. The aroma is rather roasted, burnt actually, with chocolate hints and lots of piney, citrusy hops. It's full-bodied and soft on the palate, quite bitter, with a nice carbonation. Roasted and burnt malts, some licorice hints and a good dash of piney and citrusy hops. Long dark malts finish with the hops adding bitterness, pine cones and citrus notes. A nice one, but too much on the dark malt side. 181216

330ml draught, 5.2 % abv, at Grünerløkka Brygghus. Off-white head that laced well. Black in the glass with a deep ruby tint. Earth and leafy hops on the nose. Well blended taste profile of roasted malts, pine, and herbal hops. Malt bitter tail, dry. Fine bodied. Nice one. (Oslo 04.12.2018).
