Dark, rich and classically bitter, Thunderbird is an easy drinker. Berry fruits and citrus notes sing through against a deliciously malty backbone.

Cask at The Imperial, Exeter (JDW). JUST what the doctor ordered in a sunny beer garden on a 17 hour travel day. Grassy, bitter, hops, gluggable..perfect for the moment.

Cask at The Booking Office (JDW), Edinburgh. Pours clear amber gold with a cream cap. Aroma: apples, citrus, some toffee, floral hop. Taste: light to moderate sweet & bitter, lightly dry, creamy, biscuit malts, autumn fruits. Medium body with fine carbonation. Pretty decent.

Cask at Butlers Bell, Stafford. Pours a golden amber with medium sized off-white head. The aroma has fresh apples, citrus and floral hops. In the mouth there’s a slight sweetness to start but this is quickly swamped by bitterness of floral hops (though not overwhelming). It has a juicy texture with autumn fruits, biscuits and a hint of ginger. Finish is quite dry – it’s OK.

[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading.] A golden amber pour with a creamy head; berry fruit aroma; tart bilberry taste, then some sour mash; and a disturbing vegetal bitterness to finish. Not too bad!

Handpull cask at the Corn Exchange (JDW), Leicester. Light brown and clear with a foamy off-white head. Woody and slightly spicy aroma - I'm getting notes of sarsaparilla- with caramel closing out the till. Sweet taste with big notes of toffee turning incredibly bitter. Lovely astringency I the finish. Surprisingly nice.

Keg at the Bucks Country Show at Penn House. Deep amber with an off-white head. A little blackberry and sweet lemon, but mainly earthy malt with a satisfying body and a bitterish finish. A better than average bitter this, quite enjoyed it.
