Bottle at home, 31st August 14. Aroma is chocolate, malts, a little iron. Pours flat, taste is chocolate, ash, metallic. Palate is too thin, drinks easy. OK, about what I expected

Bottle, from Hogs Back shop, at JF’s house decoration bash 22/02/14. Light black with a moderate tan covering. Nose is roast malt, cocoa powder, light spice, touch of vanilla. Taste comprises burnt toffee, light roast, cocoa powder, dark fruit twang. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, a little on the watery / thin side. Ok stout, easy drinker, perhaps a little thin for the ABV.

Cask at the Lyric - Soho, London. Pours dirty brown with a large, lasting beige froth head. The nose holds earth, wet tobacco ash and milk chocolate. Light sweet flavor with lots of gritty ash, tobacco, abrasive charred leaf bitterness. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Poor condition. More ashy roast to finish, bitter cocoa, burnt wood, dirt. I fear this might be the end of a cask that has been pouring for a bit. Not much to like here. A pretty unpleasant drink.

Cask at Lyric Soho. It pours deep ruby-brown with a medium beige head. The nose is roasted malt, cocoa, coffee and burnt notes. The taste is roasted malt, pepper, toast, ash, burnt notes, coffee and mild acidity with a very dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Not a whole lot going on really. A run of the mill stout.

Cask at Battersea beer festival 2012. A dark brown/ruby coloured pour with a thin white head on top. A fruity, malty aroma. Tastes similar, fruity, malty, chocolate, roasty. Quite good.

Cask at the Nags Head, Reading. Brownish-black with a ruby red tint and soapy cream head; wholemeal toast aroma; smooth and syrupy - stewed plums with traces of smoke and bitter chocolate; leaving a warming finish. Very pleasant.

Cask gravity at Battersea BF 2007. Very deep ruby colour with no head. Reasonably good stout. Nice subtle dark roast flavours. Fullish in mouth. Not overly dry or sour. Quite drinkable. Nice choc on finish.
