The Brewers’ love affair with zesty aromatic hops continues with this alternative version of Hophead using Citra as the single hop variety for bittering and aroma.

Cask@Akkurat, Stockholm. Golden colour with a small fluffy white head. Aroma is a bunch of zest, some fruits, floral notes as well as some grassyness. Flavour is floral and grassy hops with some mild malty and fruity notes as well. Pleasantly balanced and very nice. Long zesty aftertaste.

(Cask at Angleterre, Helsinki, 20110328) The beer poured pale golden and clear. Its head was white and long lasting. Aroma was very citric, fruity and mildly piny. Palate was quite light bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, hops, citricness, mildly pine and medium bitterness. Aftertaste was citric and bitter. Really tasty and refreshing beer and a really good example that good flavours and scents don’t require high ABV. I wish this to become a regular in Dark Star beer selection.

Half, cask in fine condition at Euston Tap. Hazy, golden body, good amount of lacework. Floral hoppy aroma. Inviting hoppy taste, potpourri of citric fruits. Dry ending. Well balanced and well bodied considering the low abv (London, 19.03.2011).

Clear golden color, small white head. Dominant Citra-hop aroma: strong grapefruit. Light body. Flavor has over a bit sweet pale malt base nice grapefruity Citra-hop flavor. Lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. Citra is one of hops which works pretty ok as a single hop in a beer. This one is nice too.

Cask-conditioned at the Euston Tap, London 17/3/2011. Pale gold in colour with a decent, white head. Big, grapefruit and pineapple aroma. Flavour had more of the same with a solid malt backbone and dryish finish. Excellent.

Cask at the Euston Tap. Clear, pale gold pour with a foamy, white head. Lots of grass and some tangerine on the nose. Flavor is just sweet enough, with some toasty cereal and hay, plus grass and straw, light pine bitters, some soft florals. Light to medium in body with fine to average carbonation. Mild sticky finish, perfect balance, bit more citrusy fruits here, some pineapple, light malts and toasted grains. Ah, wonderful! Makes you want to just keep drinking.

Cask at The Harp, London. Golden coloured pour with medium fluffy white head. Great fresh hoppy aroma. Similar to the original Hophead but this was slightly more bitter. Very fresh sample, crisp, hoppy and great taste for a beer of this strength. Good stuff.
