Our pet octopus is a bit of a jerk. He’s that guy who has a couple then either tells you how much he loves you or threatens to fight you. So we brewed this IPA, with 8 varieties of hops and 8 types of malt. We targeted 88 IBU and 8.8% to appease him. Sadly, when he found out that we’d fabricated all of the above info, it only made him more volatile. We are starting to realize that Octopus was a poor choice for a pet.

This IPA poured a light amber colour with a bright white, soapy head. Minimal lacing. Scents of grass, celery and peppers? First swig was interesting. Flavours of white wine, ripe fruit and Bovril. Finish is surprisingly malty with a hop bitterness strongly on the palate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Thirsty and Miserable. Great Lakes octopus wants to fight ipa 6.2% Opaque gold with a filmy white head and a great tropical fruit hop bouquet. Medium to light bodied with a dry finish with a crisp clean hop flavor of apricot, prickly pear and pine. Quite a good IPA.

Tap at The Only Cafe Toronto. Almost clear darker golden with off white head, quite some lacing. Mango, weedy hops with marijuana, light onion, grass, passion fruit, papaya. Light milky, with caramel and sweet malts. Medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with a bit of a slick feel. Good US style IPA.

Can, 473 ml, via Billy Hamilton - CANBIF 2016 (thank you!), savoured on July 27 2016; eye: golden with a polished copper hue, clear, no effervescence, off-white head that turns into a creamy ring, good lacing; nose: citrusy, tropical fruits, pine refreshing; mouth: citrusy, tropical fruits, pine, refreshing, slight malt, semi-dry finale in tropical fruits with presence of caramel, full body, good carbonation, quite bitter, lightly sweet, lightly harsh texture; overall: quite likable FRANÇAIS Canette, 473 ml, via Billy Hamilton - CANBIF 2016 (thank you!), savourée le 27 juillet 2016; œil : dorée avec une teinte de cuivre poli, limpide, pas d’effervescence, mousse blanc cassé qui se transforme en un anneau crémeux, bonne dentelle; nez : citrique, fruits tropicaux, pin, rafraîchissant; bouche : citrique, fruits tropicaux, pin, rafraîchissant, très léger malt, finale semi-sèche en fruits tropicaux avec présence de caramel, corsé, bonne carbonatation, pas mal amère, légèrement sucrée, texture légèrement râpeuse; en résumé : bien aimé
