The arrival of hops to the brewing scene in England in the 1500’s led to a moral panic. Hops were condemned as a “wicked and pernicious weed”, one which would lead to the erosion of social and moral standards. Thank goodness they were right. Here’s hoping that our homage to the original pernicious weed continues this gradual decline. Organic Rakau and whole cone Nelson Sauvin go head to head in this strong, golden, hoppy brew. Bitter, yes. Intensely hoppy, absolutely. Too much, never.

Big offwhite head. Clear yellow body with carbonation. Resiny grassy pineapple aroma with spicy wooden notes. Dry-sweet peachy wine grape taste with spicy wooden grassy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish mealy citric resiny aftertaste with gooseberry and wood notes. Nice, drinkable, and full of flavour. (0.65l bottle, wine monopoly, Vika, Oslo.)

Bottle at home. Has a cloudy orange colour with a medium, soapy, light beige head. Lots of hops in the aroma that alomst feels spicy. In addtion theres a sweet tone with grass, flowers, tropical fruit, grapefruit and some diacetyl. The flavour is very fruity with grassy hops, apricot and some alcohol and citrus. Slick and rich mouth feel, and has a medium bitterness. A tasteful and aromatic DIPA with some diacetyl.

650 ml bottle, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 8%. Cloudy deep golden to brownish colour, moderate to low white head. Strong hoppy aroma, notes of pine, spruce and tropical fruits. Distinctly hoppy flavour too, medium dry, notes of pine and grapefruit, hints of crushed white grapes and tropical fruits. Bitter aftertaste. Very good. Would certainly buy again. * Now available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger.

Can, thanks to Dave. It pours hazy pale orange with a medium white head. The nose is rich, juicy, orange, sherbet, tangerine and marmalade. The taste is crisp, juicy, orange, tangerine, grapefruit, minerals, light spice, pine and some alcohol with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Very impressive stuff indeed. Crisp, juicy and damn tasty.
