A Porter as one might conclude, very dark in colour almost pitch black but up to a good light a brown reddish hue can be just picked out. It been known to leave one pondering over last night’s events. With a generous addition of fresh Fuggle hops and Chocolate malts, a good balance of smooth, rich and complex is duly noted from start to finish. Our yeast settles out nicely without the help of finings. suitible for vegitarians and vegans.

Old rating - Picked up from the brewery shop, one of only 3 beers they currently bottle. This Ruby Porter is very dark in colour almost pitch black but up to a good light a brown reddish hue can be just picked out. You can taste the darker malts, and a roasted and almost dessert taste can be thoroughly sensed. This is one beer I'm going to enjoy slowly.

Cask at the Clachan, Nicholson’s - London. Pours clear, ruby-brown with a filmy tan cap. The aroma holds dry and toasty bread, some leathery fruits. Light sweetflavor with toasty and crunchy brown bread, a bit of scorched beef, raisins, dirt. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Mellow roasted malt finish with hints of dried berries, earth, burnt wood and soft baking cocoa. The overall character is a little wimpy but otherwise it’s fair.

Cask @ The Mitre, Cambridge. Rich dark mahogany with full but short-lived head. Faint fruit and malt aroma. Taste is bitter, burnt. May not be at its best. Nice mouthfeel.

Cask-conditioned at the Bag ONails, Bristol 21/03/09. Ruby red with a slight white head. Sweet, red fruit, barley sugar aroma with a hint of coffee. Flavour was also driven by sweetness, with plenty of caramel, fruity malts and some roastiness lurking in the background, before a dry finish. A bit unusual, but drinkable nonetheless.
