Bottle from the Food Shop in Dartington. Appearance - deep amber with a pleasant off white head. Nose - brown bread, possibly going rye bread. Light spice. Taste - sweet caramel note up front, then honey going into more brown bread. Palate - creamy and medium bodied. The finish could be fresher but not too bad. Overall - ultimate pale ale? Perhaps in another universe. Not even sure it's a pale ale.

Bottle from Quenchers, Bideford. It pours clear golden with a bubbly white head. The aroma is toasty grain, but bready, cereal, dusty and paper. The taste is dry, bitter, quite sweet actually, apple, pear, toasty grain, cereal, touch soapy with a dry, grainy finish. Lightish body, low carbonation and oily mouth - feel. A bit shit really and very far from "the ultimate pale ale" as advertised. Grainy and very meh.

Bottle from the brewer's own stall at the Dartmouth Food Festival. Deep gold with a thin white head. Mild and slightly sour citrus flavour. Some leafy hops. Bready malts. A pretty dull and basic golden ale; I'm not sure why they feel they need the sexist claim that it's a real man's beer, or a skull and crossbones on the label. Both of these just annoy me and stop me wanting to try anything else from this uninspiring brewery ever again.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 2/12/2016. Golden in colour, with a thin, off-white, head. An easy drinking golden ale, with a touch of leafy hops and citrus fruits, before a moderately bitter, finish. Ok.

Bottle on holiday in Lyme Regis. Clear gold beer, thin white head. Palate is light and mildly crisp. The pale malts have a trace of creamy sweetness. Little floralness sweetness, mild soap undertone. Modest orange. Trace of spice. Light finish. Serviceable. Just.

Bottle from Tuckers Maltings, Newton Abbot. The tag ultimate pale ale, got my hopes up. But alas they were dashed. Basic golden ale colour, and a slightly malty taste and flavour. Thin body.
