As in the Belgian tradition of brewing Christmas beers, this is our very own version. It is added with orange peel and raisins. The aromas are warming and captivating and swing from nutty to citrus and slight hints of honey. Mouthfeel starts with caramel and honey flavors and lead to cherry and currant flavors with a delicate bitter finish.

Shared 12.7 oz. bottle. Murky brown with an off-white head. Malty aroma with some dark fruits. Flavor is malt, dark fruits, brown sugar, faint citrus, spice, and lots of alcohol. Finish is largely malty and harsh due to the alcohol.

Birra del Borgo 25 Dodici 9.5% 750ml bottle I picked up at Open Baladin in Rome last year. This Belgian Strong Ale was brewed with raisins & orange peels/zest. Served in my tulip it poured a deep plum brown/purple with a thick light beige head of foam. The aromatics are malty, sweet with fresh cut orange blossoms and hints of raisins. It’s got a nice full body and a surprisingly spicy character - celery salt, mild coriander, raisins, figs, candied orange peel. Very smooth well integrated flavors. You honestly don’t feel the 9.5% at all, while not a beer that will wow you it will definitely gently soothe your nerves and help you relax on a cold Christmas night.

On tap @Buskers Pub (Rome). Pours brown/mahogany with a big and persistent off-white head. Aroma of esters, banana, apple, dried fruits, caramel, brown sugar. Flavour is sweet with a fantastic light sourness in the end, drinkable despite the ABV. Medium to high body, medium carbonation. Amazing winter beer!
