Bière pression bue au Moeder lambic, à Bruxelles pendant une chasse aux trésors sur le thème de la bière avec Beer my Guest. Robe brune claire. Bouche sur le malt, douce, pas trop sucrée. Une brune très légère et correcte. (M)

(Draught at Moeder Lambic Fontainas, Brussels, 16 Oct 2019) Dark brown colour, almost black, with creamy beige head. Malty, slightly roasted nose with notes of dried fruit, caramel, anise and chocolate. Malty taste with caramel, chocolate, liquorice, anise, dried fruit and a mild spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and well balanced with rich liquorice and chocolate flavours. Nice one.

24 October 2019. At Moeder Lambic Fontainas, Brussels. Shared with the lovely Anke! Pours hazy dark brown with a lasting, unstable, frothy, tan head; lots of lacing. Aroma of iron, salty liquorice, mocha, raisin, candied fig, biscuit, chocolate. Taste is light to medium malty sweet, hinting at raisin, fig, quite some dried banana, chocolate powder & nutty accents; bready-toasty undercurrent with bitter mocha leading to a dry, herbal hoppy finish, bit metallic, lingering caramel, liquorice & dark fruit. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. I expected that there'd be more to it.

Dubbel brewed for the Moeder Lambic pubs in Brussels, tasted from tap at Fontainas. Papery lacing, bit irregular, pale greyish white, mousy, frothy head on a very dark chocolate brown beer with hazy burgundy hue. Aroma of caramel candy, bubblegum, dates, tea, cloves, dry tree leaves, a whiff of iron, banana, dried figs. Sweetish onset but restrainedly so, quite bubblegummy isoamylacetate effect, sharply numbing (over)carbonation, slick hard-caramelly and lightly nutty malt body, cleanish and straightforward with a toasty bitter tail (rare in a dubbel), matching with a herbal, tea-ish hop bitterness. Caramelly malts, toasty bitterness, bubblegum and a light metallic ‘zing’ linger. Bit atypical due to this toasted bitter aspect but otherwise very clean and straightforward, this brewery can do a lot better.

Draft glass @ Chez Moeder Lambiek Fontainas. Dark brown red hued wood, creamy head. Nose is very soapy BE dark fruit with heavy sweet prune jam and syrup. Taste is soap sugar, sweet candy, sugar, overripe dark fruit, soap is far too dominating in flavour, fair but heavy soap really takes it down. Soap & BE dark fruits body.
